The American Society of Plastic Surgeons has recently released their plastic surgery statistics for 2010. Plastic surgery procedures are on the rises as the economy rebounds. Last year, there were more than 13 million elective cosmetic surgeries performed in America, which was a 5 percent increase from 2009, says the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
The increase in cosmetic plastic surgery procedures is the first reported since the recession began, according to ABC News. The No. 1 most popular cosmetic surgery procedure in 2010 was breast augmentation, where nearly 300,000 Americans opted for this procedure, followed by rhinoplasty (nose job / reshaping), eyelid surgery, liposuction, and tummy tucks. Botox injections were at the top for non-surgical procedures performed, followed by soft tissue fillers, chemical peels, laser hair removal, and microdermabrasion.
“There’s some pent-up demand for cosmetic surgical procedures,” ASPS president Phillip Haeck said in a news release.
“People waited a couple of years or more to have procedures until their finances were at least somewhat back in order. But more consumers are again willing to spend more to look better.”
As the economy worldwide swings up and down, plastic surgery procedures continue to grow amongst many Americans with the youth population steadily increasing for procedures as well.
