A Labiaplasty (sometimes spelled labioplasty) is a cosmetic plastic surgery procedure that involves the labia, any of four folds of tissue of the vulva (female external genitalia).
Labiaplasty cosmetic surgery may be undertaken for functional reasons, aesthetic reasons, or a combination of both. This cosmetic procedure can involve the creation or reshaping of the patient’s labia. A Labiaplasty is sometimes performed to revise aesthetic conditions such as a large inner labia, as well as to repair the area following disease or injury, especially from childbirth.
A hoodectomy may be performed to expose the clitoris more in order to address any sexual dysfunction such as clitoral phimosis or lack of orgasm. This type of procedure is frequently performed to reduce the size of one or both sets of labia on the woman.
Labiaplasty is an outpatient cosmetic surgery procedure that is usually performed under local anesthesia. After the surgery, women may experience some mild discomfort and swelling, but this usually disappears completely after about 1-2 weeks.
