Chin Implants are made in various shapes and sizes. They are typically made out of both solid and semi-solid materials.
Most often, an incision is made by the trusted cosmetic plastic surgeon inside the patient’s lower lip, or under the chin. An implant of the desired size and shape of the patient is then placed inside the chin. If the incision is made inside of the mouth, it is closed with sutures (stitches) that will later dissolve. If the incision is under the chin, removable sutures are used. At the end of the cosmetic surgery operation, the chin is often taped to minimize any swelling for the patient. Chin implants cosmetic surgery procedures usually take about 30 to 60 minutes to complete, yet this is on a case by case scenario for patients.
Chin implants are used to improve the appearance of one’s jaw line in order to provide a more “natural-looking” break between the neck and face. The goal of chin implants (chin augmentation) is to use the chin implants to give the patient greater definition to their chin and provide more of a balance with the rest of their face.
Patients of chin implants can count on some swelling and perhaps bruising to occur, but this will be helped by an application of tape or other material. This tape is removed form the chin about a week after the cosmetic surgery is performed. Patients of this surgery can expect some pain and discomfort, which may last for several days following the procedure, but this can be eased by an oral analgesic. Facial movements, such as talking and smiling, may be a little difficult for several days following the surgery, but all should subside and the patient should be back to normal.
