Botox Injections May Cure Baldness Says Beverly Hill's Plastic Surgeon

There may be a cure in the works for balding men, as Botox injections may cure thinning thatches.

June 24, 2009, The toxic chemicals in Botox are generally used to smooth out the wrinkles on one’s facial skin, but more recently, scientists have found that the use of Botox Injections can cause hair to regrow.

This type of new hair regrowth treatment was discovered by accident by Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr Simon Ourian, who at the time was trying to cure headaches suffered by his mother after chemotherapy used to kill her cancer.

After injecting Botox into her scalp, Dr. Ourian was stunned to see her hair regrow.

Baldness is caused by the hair follicles shrinking, and when this happens, no new ones are produced. But Botox dilates the blood vessels, which allows nutrients to be absorbed into the hair shaft, as this works to stimulate new hair growth on one’s head.

Dr. Ourian has tested this emerging botox cosmetic treatment on volunteers for three years at his Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery practice. The treatment needs repeated injections, but he noted a “dramatic” difference after just one session.

“I was happily surprised. As hair loss is a significant source of insecurity, there was no shortage of volunteers.” Said Dr. Ourian.

Botox is the medical name for botulinum toxin, which is a powerful natural poison. It was developed to stop eye muscle spasms but is commonly used as an anti-wrinkle treatment as it paralyses facial muscles.
